Cosmopolitan – Olivia Wilde did a thing…and by “did a thing,” we mean direct a film that already broke the internet before its official trailer has been released. Obsessed! While showcasing a first look at her upcoming project Don’t Worry Darling at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Olivia allowed movie theater owners and select guests to sneak a peek at the trailer early, and naturally, murmurs about scenes made their way to Twitter.com.
Here’s what we know: The footage begins with Harry Styles and Florence Pugh’s characters snuggling in bed. In the film, the two portray a husband and wife living in an experimental community in California (think: Palm Springs–picturesque). Florence’s character is a housewife whose feelings go from passive to dubious in regards to her husband’s work on a utopian undertaking called the “Victory Project.”
When talking to guests at CinemaCon at Caesars Palace, Olivia mentioned that she culled inspiration from movies like Inception, The Matrix, and The Truman Show, and her own project is “a love letter to movies that push the boundaries of our imagination.”
“I want you to imagine a life where you have everything you could want. Not just material, tangible things…like a beautiful house, perfect weather and gorgeous cars. But also the things that really matter, like true love or the perfect partner or real trusted friendships and a purpose that feels meaningful. What would it take for you to give up that life, that perfect life. What are you really willing to sacrifice to do what’s right?” the director asked. “Are you willing to dismantle the system that’s designed to serve you? That’s the big question at the center of Don’t Worry Darling,” she finished.
And although all these pretty amaze tidbits have made their way to the internet, fans couldn’t help but fixate on one thing: the rumored steamy-AF sex scenes between Harry and Florence. Where, you ask? On the counter, on a kitchen sink, on a dining room table…you get the gist.
The Twitter reactions are so good, we couldn’t possibly keep them to ourselves, so enjoy!
